The Didactic Evolution: Educational Buildings
Patricia Saldana Natke will discuss “taught knowledge” and the debate surrounding the design of spaces for the transfer of knowledge in society. Patricia Saldaña Natke is a Partner and President of UrbanWorks, an architecture, planning, and interior design firm in Chicago.
Urbanworks has won over twenty design awards within the last four years, including many for K-12 educational facilities. Firm recent awards include the 2013 1st Place Dreihaus Award for LaCasa, 2011 AIA Chicago Chapter Design Excellence Awards for a Distinguished Building for UNO Charter School; AIA Small Project Award for the Automobile Container; AIA Urban and Regional Planning Award for Big Bold Visionary Groundplanes of Gary, Indiana; 2010 1st Place Dreihaus Award for Excellence in Community Design for the UNO Veterans Charter School Complex; and the 2008 1st Place Award for the IDPL Community Center Design Competition.
Ms. Saldana Natke has taught at the UIC Graduate School of Architecture, Facilitated at Archeworks, and is a Part Time Professor at the Illinois Institute of Technology School of Architecture.
Ms. Saldana Natke is a board member of the CNT (Center for Neighborhood Technology), CNT Energy, Co-Chairs the Chicago Public Education Fund Leadership Council, is a board member of the Partners of the Americas Illinois Chapter, a committee member of the HACIA Sustainability Committee, and a member of the TRP Pilsen Planning Committee. Ms. Saldana Natke is a past president of Chicago Women in Architecture, past board member of HACIA, past committee chair of the AIA National Diversity Committee, past Vice President of the HACIA Scholarship Foundation, and the 2010 president of Partners of the Americas Illinois Chapter.
